OH...What the Hell...
Since everyone wants to battle each other, let's bring it up a notch. We haven't taken on the Lactating Nazis (merely a term of endearment, ladies) on in a while so considering the mood I'm in after my night last night, I thought I'd toss out the bait and see if anyone bites....
This is absolutely the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. The trans fats thing was bad enough... but now the health officials in New York are banning baby formula for babies born in hospitals there. No more free samples for those mothers who, most likely, can't even afford formula in the first place. Does this also mean that low income mothers won't be able to get free formula from WIC or any other agency that is set up to help these women? Are these health officials now going to provide these new mothers with nutrition education and money to pay for a healthy diet so that their breast feeding will actually be beneficial to their babies? Are they going to police the habits of these mothers to ensure that there is no alcohol or tobacco use going on while these women are literally being forced to breastfeed? Yes, I know, just because someone is low income doesn't mean they use alcohol or smoke but let's be realistic here.... we all know some do. So which is a better scenario.... forcing a low income mother who cannot afford a healthy diet to breastfeed her child knowing that she isn't giving her baby the nutrition needed for proper development.... or providing the mother with formula that has been used by mothers for decades that provides a good balance of sustenance for a healthy child.
My problem here is that these suits sit up in their ivory tower making these idiotic decisions because... well, I guess they think it sounds good...before considering the trickle down effect. Not everyone is a NY City yuppie who can afford to live a healthy lifestyle and do the appropriate things to provide their offspring with the best advantages in life.
I hear New York is a great place to visit.... I'm glad I don't live there.

That is the dumbest thing I ever heard of. What if a mother doesn't produce milk? What if BF creeps her out? What if she has AIDS or Hepatitis B? I am so sick of people forcing people to breast feed. I breastfed my baby for nine months because it was easier for me and I wanted to. Did you see the quote in the article from a woman who breastfed her baby for "FIVE YEARS." That is just disgusting.
I like to call people like that Sanctimommies- looking down at you from their BMW SUVs at soccer practice for not buying organic oranges for halftime. They spend their free time talking about how awful working mothers are and discussing the benefits of kale in their children's diets. GET A LIFE and give your child a cupcake, OMG, with fake hydrogenated frosting. DOH.

LOL Jenny Wu! Or think about a stay at home mom, and give your kid a cupcake (homemade even) in front of an adoptive single parent with a livein cook and nanny. That's fun too. ;0)

I KNOOOWWWW... when your child is old enough to unbutton your shirt and pull out your nipple to suck on it, it's time to introduce the sippy cup.

Make sure pregnant women know all their "CHOICES" just in case they want to kill their baby. Make sure they know they have that CHOICE
But, once you have your own child, you shouldn't be given the CHOICE as to what it should be fed.
