So Called Peace Rally in Portland
Peace rally???? Is this how they demonstrate peace in Portland Oregon...by burning not only an American flag but an American soldier in effigy?????? Yes, an American soldier.
and carrying around signs that say "fuck the troops"?????
PHOTOS HAVE BEEN REMOVED AT REQUEST OF THE OWNER
This is despicable. And what's more sickening is that there are people out there who are actually proud of this obscene display. Tell me Mr. "The Truth"... what do you have to say about this?
I, for one, honestly don't know what to say except maybe its time for the Eagles to land in Portland.
Cappy asks if we can now question their patriotism yet. There is no question.... there is nothing patriotic about these acts whatsoever.

Malkin flies with a "Gathering of Eagles"
by Kevin Holsinger
Thu Mar 08, 2007 at 05:51:43 PM PDT
Summary: Michelle Malkin promotes a group she’ll be marching with called the "Gathering of Eagles". Despite the group referring to itself as "non-violent, non-confrontational", some of the group’s merchandise contains language that is anything but.
Notes: (1) This is my first diary here at Dailykos, so constructive criticism is appreciated. (2) Greetings to anyone from Crooks and Liars. This is "Kevin2" speaking.
Let the magic begin...
I was reading a column by Michelle Malkin where she wrote about a march that she intended to take part in on March 17th. Its nature is one of a counter-march designed to blunt the impact of a more anti-Bush, anti-Iraq War, and allegedly anti-military march set up for the same day. Now, I never supported the Iraq War (I still believe preemptive warfare is witch-hunting on an international scale, where suspicion equals guilt). But if Ms. Malkin wants to march in support of it, I have nothing against that. Plus, the way she described the group she’d be marching with, the "Gathering of Eagles", there seemed to be a certain nobility to it. Apparently, this group is motivated, in part, by a desire to prevent antiwar extremists from desecrating structures linked, in one way or another, to the military. She wrote...
Last time the left-wing, peace-loving fun bunch came to town, their minions gone wild threw rocks at a military recruitment office in D.C's Dupont Circle neighborhood and at a local Fox News van, broke through a Capitol Hill police security cordon, spray painted the Capitol Grounds with impunity, desecrated the Lone Sailor statue that stands watch at the U.S. Navy Memorial and reportedly spat at disabled Iraq war veteran Josh Sparling as he voiced his support for his fellow troops.
All things considered, I really didn’t have that much of a problem with what Ms. Malkin was planning to do. But just as Mr. Bush’s track record has made me suspicious of any new move he makes (like Iran), Ms. Malkin's record made me wonder if there was something wrong with the picture she was painting. So I went to the website for the "Gathering of Eagles" and noticed that, on the right side of the screen, there’s a link to official merchandise. My immediate suspicion was that there would probably be something they’re selling that contains extremely unpleasant language. So I clicked the link, went through the items (most of which are okay), and got to the bottom of the screen, where I found the "featured products": two t-shirts . Now, I’m going to provide some of the lyrics printed on those and I want you to keep in mind that Ms. Malkin, in her column, put up the self-description of the "Gathering of Eagles" that called it "a non-violent, non-confrontational group". Here are some of the lyrics on their t-shirts (the first two lines of verse #2 refer to Cindy Sheehan and Jane Fonda)...
You shout and scream all you want,
On all that we’ll give a pass;
But you try some Wall-defacing stunt,
And, son, I’m gonna kick your ass.
So follow these traitors, these loser bitches.
Let them lead you to your fall;
But I promise you, son, you’re gonna need stitches,
You even get close to this Wall.
Two notes. First, it’s entirely possible that Ms. Malkin signed on with this group before they began selling these products, and is merely the victim of bad luck. Second, Ms. Malkin’s not the only person who’s sided with this group. Melanie Morgan’s got a small list of others (herself included).
In conclusion, the mission of the "Gathering of Eagles" sounds justifiable (I don’t condone antiwar extremism any more than pro-war extremism). Many of the members of this group might be noble people. But if they stand behind the lyrics on those t-shirts, the men and women of the "Gathering of Eagles" might find that those lyrics are the only things people see.

I have no doubt that the Eagles would stand behind those lyrics...in fact, I hope they do. I wish they were in Portland when these disgusting creatures were burning an American soldier....There is nothing peaceful about that... and those doing it needed their asses kicked.

I am ashamed of you!
Look up the word hypocrite and tell me if it does NOT apply to you!

How can we be sure these pictures of people purported to be anti-war protesters desecrating the U.S. Flag and burning a soldier in effigy, etc, aren't staged stunts by Malkin's minions, set up to discredit the Anti-war movement?

Oh Geez, we have a conspiracy theorist in our midst. I'm shaking.

No Lee, it's the famous NW corridor Anarchists. Notice, many of the protesters are wearing masks. Many of them are wanted criminals that have participated in eco-terrorism and have sabotaged many a World Trade meeting. I lived in Eugene, OR for a while and this group of college drop outs are supported by the lingering Deadhead culture of the area. We have our own homegrown insurgents.

Lee....exactly how am I a hypocrite? Just curious.

Lisa: These lyrics are disgusting, (They promote violence):

And, son, I’m gonna kick your ass.
So follow these traitors, these loser bitches.
Let them lead you to your fall;

Lisa's response:

Lisa, Unless you want to announce to this BLOG that you support violence and terror. Your support for these violent, despicable, obscene lyrics absolutely shows you to be a hypocrite.

Lee, I learned from Carl: "So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice."

Lee.... I have no problem beating the shit out of someone who is burning an American soldier in effigy.... In fact... I wouldn't mind being the one to throw the first punch. Why is it Lee that those of us who love and respect those who fight for us should turn the other cheek when people like this burn American soldiers in effigy? Why is it OK with you that they do these disgusting things? Tell me Lee... does it have to be a cross burning to get your attention?

Hey, there are some troops I'd fuck in a moment!
http://www.phun.org/galleries/female_army_soldiers/Israel80.jpg
Yeah, that's taking a serious issue and making it small. But maybe this is a small issue -- you will get some idiots (on both sides of the fence) who embarrass anyone with a brain. I don't think it matters if these people were family men or not, it's not appropriate -- but weigh that against the troops who are dying every day, not in effigy, for this pointless war -- who is the bigger fuckup?
I don't like Flock of Seagulls: they seem to think we need mercenaries to do the job of our police force. I think that's offensive as well.

Flock of Seagulls???? Ugh... the 80s nightmare. Thanx for burning that image in my brain tonight.

Lisa!
A violent, armed, rabid, mob burning a cross in front of my house is a hell of lot mmore dangerous than some kooks burning a flag in a street.
Apparently you don't understand the difference....

Lee...you never cease to amaze me. I did not ask you about the flag. These creeps want our soldiers dead... that is very clear. It is just as offensive.
Posted by:Lisa | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 09:21 AM
OK, Lisa, you win!
Burning an effigy of an American soldier is worse than burning an American flag.
And sure as sh*t, is far worse than The Ku Klux Klan Burning crosses all over the South just prior to dragging out some worthless 'Coon's and Lynching them...(about 25,000 to be exact).
I'm not aware of any actual American soldiers being killed in protests by 'effigy burners' while protesting in American cities....
But..You win.
Posted by:Lee | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 05:14 PM
Again Lee... you never cease to amaze me. Always taking it to the extreme. But at least I know where you stand on this.... It simply doesn't matter to you that these people want our soldiers dead....unless of course, they are soldiers of color.

my friend was the one that took those photos and i just want to clarify that we were not part of the anarchists or the flag buring, all my friend did was take pictures, when she writes "some of them are my friends" she means us marching in the other pictures, not the ones in black. and 95% of the people at the rally were not in support of this, they were a small group of maybe 30 people out of the thousands there.

I am also a good friend of the girl who took these photos, and happened to be right there with her as we past this demonstration. She was merely taking photos -- her stance on this issue is very much opposed, and we were both extremely disgusted by what we saw. At that, the Peace Rally, as a whole, was entirely well mannered and organized. The writer of this blog should be ashamed for jumping to such inane and asinine conclusions, should practice the proverbial "pulling-head-out-of-ass" before they make any more rash conclusions. Once again, my friend was merely documenting the event, and not advocating the actions depicted in the photos.

Here is what is written as an intro to those photos... "really good photos. some are my friends, but just thought that i would share". No mention of being disgused at the actions of those so called 5% you all claim to be commiting the horrible acts. Maybe its you who should be pulling your head out of your ass.
