Yesterday, in an effort to look like the President and the Republican controlled Congress have actually done something, the President signed the Secure Fence Act. As the bill was signed into law the air surrounding the President got all wavy and we could hear harp music playing and suddenly we were all transported into a magical fairy tale land where the Secure Fence Act actually accomplished something.
The Secure Fence Act calls for a fence to be built along 700 miles of the southern border.
There is only funding for 300 miles of fence.
The southern border is just shy of 2000 miles.
Experts estimate that the fence will slow down illegals by approximately one minute.
There are about 3 billion loopholes in this bill that practically guarantees that this fence will never happen.
But the conservative base was placated and the Republicans lived happily ever after...until Election Day.

Bush actually wants the fence constructed because (I'm not making this up...) he thinks it's going to bring the tourists back to the US. That's right, he's building a FENCE to bring in more TOURISTS:

Chris: "But the conservative base was placated and the Republicans lived happily ever after...until Election Day."
Chris, you post the above and then refer to the conservative blogs that agree with you. If you think the conservative base was appeased, you're the one living in the fantasyland. As a Southern Californian, and a conservative, I am disgusted with the lack of interest in securing our borders from BOTH sides of the aisle. We could take lessons from Mexico on border security. How pathetic is that!

Remember the story about..."The Emperor's New Clothes"?"
This silly fence initiative is exactly just one example of what the moral of that ages old fable is all about...
A simple fable aimed at the simplistic minds of children makes more sense than the mindlkess assholes do who are jumping up and cheering that the fence will stop Illegals from entering our country, (or even make any difference in the so-called flood from South of The border, down Mexico way...), How stupid can you people, (who believe this Macaca-Mamie scam), be?
----
Conventional wisdom, BTW, says that it'll take some Mexicans, and OT M's, who are the only real craftsmen when it comes to wall or fence building to perform the work.....ZLook around...Who is doing all the cement and fence work in this country today?
About the only noticeable contribution Americans may make will be the 'Graffiti they spray on the f*ckin' wall!

Lee, Once again your rascist ass is wrong. On my jobs most of my concrete guys are white or black. Do you even work in an industry that uses concrete? Also, rascist A-holes like you have no clue what quality work OTM can do. You POS.
You and your hate should go live south of the border if you don't like it here. Put you little money where your big mouth is. Turd.

Just got back in town, but didn't want to miss out on the fun. I'm a big fan of threads that include at least one 'turd' reference.
The Secure Fence Act calls for a fence to be built along 700 miles of the southern border. Good start.
There is only funding for 300 miles of fence. Yeah, lets fund a 20 year project on the first day.
The southern border is just shy of 2000 miles. Uh, yes it is.
Experts estimate that the fence will slow down illegals by approximately one minute. Gotta love those experts. Hello, I'm a fence climbing expert. I bet it would slow my fat ass down a little more than that.
And 'tourists', come on JoeC - focus!

I had an acre and 1/4 lot in Pahrump, NV until I moved over to las Vegas.
I had to buy fencing for this lot...I never considered fencing off 1/3 of the lot line...and the company didn't suggest that if 'I only fenced 1/3 of it..It would still work to keep the coyotes out. How stupid we were!
Geeze, If I had the congressional think tank working for me I could have saved about @1,200.00.

I find it most amusing that he signs the bill 2 days before the offical anniversary of the statue of liberty.
Tear down that statue, Mr. Bush!! Build a wall with the debris because the purpose of the statue and the words written on her certainly are not valid today.
*waves at lee*.. I made it over the internet wall. :-)

The French gave us that Statue..and we renamed 'The French Fries'.
Those great words may now be found in the bottom of the Neo-Con trash can called '[The Patriot Act'...

So we make the fence 1/3 as high and it will cover 1800 of the 2000 miles. Mine the rest. A good democrat solution.

And Chris, given that most democrat representatives and Senators say they have no interest or intention in doing ANYTHING at all about the border, (except right before election time, when they lie at the cyclic rate) at least an effort was made, however halfassed it might be.

I forgot until now the obvious interest of the democrats and illegal aliens. That is a big old hunk of what they consider their voter base, along with blacks, welfare slackers, and all the other special interest groups they cater to and who are heavily dependent on them, in preference to the people who are actually productive on their own.

Personally, if someone cannot prove they are at least 1/32 of Indian descent, then everyone of "you" should go back cuz that makes everyone who stepped in here from Europe, Africa, Asia, etc etc Illegal from my POV.
