Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Bob Woodruff (anchor for ABC) and cameraman Doug Vogt were injured in Iraq this weekend. They are currently in serious but stable condition. We are hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
Interestingly enough, the chat around the blog world is reminding everyone that soldiers get blown up by IED's all the time--as if the attention given to Woodruff is undeserved and somehow minimizing soldiers who have suffered the same fate.
Confederate Yankee doesn't really care--after all they weren't soldiers. They were only seeking "street cred."
Michelle Malkin ever so gently reminds us of others lost or injured to IED's this week, as if we were short changing them by noticing Woodruff.
Others who think that the coverage is over the top: MoveOnAndSgutUp.org, Citizen Journal, and this.
I don't think you have to not notice that someone you see on TV everyday got blown up in order to honor soldiers that were injured in the same way. I don't understand why the backlash. And just as a side note, every Sunday ABC airs the list of service members who died during the week on this week. I don't see any other media outlet doing that and I know of no blog doing that. This seems like a classic drag out the soldiers to be used for political purposes stunt to me.
My thoughts are with the Woodruff and Vogt families.
Chris

If I may opine here, anyone that is working in Iraq for a legitimate reason, is worthy of notice when they get dinged over there. And how often does the esteemed and all knowing objective 4th estate fail to let us know any time an American gets hurt or killed in Iraq? I doubt that they have missed very many opportunities like that.
The guy was doing his job, as was his cameraman. I hope they will be all right, the same as any of the troops over there who get hit.

When I see civilians being hurt or killed it brings it home that my best friend's 22 year old son Michael has just started his second tour in Iraq.
He is not a soldier but an instrument engineer helping to rebuild Shaiba airbase.
He gave up a good job in the UK because he felt the need to do something with his life.
There is hope yet.

uhhhh....that blogger, she isn't hard to look at...
Scottie, tell your friend I will be thinking of him. My only son made the invasion (USMC Reserve) with 2/11. Worst three months of our lives. Pished me off that Marine Corps wouldn't take me back in at the time (didn't want old out-of-shape retired Marines). I had already been to the desert once and really wanted to go back.

Remember Bill, if we got over there, we might just end up getting some other Marine hurt trying to prevent us from getting our fat asses starched.
We are where we belong.
