The Fourth of July

There are three of us here at Two Babes and a Brain. Three people of different ages, different backgrounds at three different stages in our lives. We very rarely agree but we like each other anyway. While for each of us different thoughts come to mind on this Fourth of July, we can at least agree upon the meaning of freedom.

On this day 229 years ago we became an independent nation. Our ancestors fought and won a long difficult war with many who paid the ultimate sacrifice in order to bestow upon us the right to free speech, free press and even the right to seek happiness.
In this day and age, technology allows us into the lives of those who live in other countries. Countries with governments who don’t believe their citizens are worthy of these freedoms that we take for granted. We see everyday the numbers of immigrants who flock to this country to seek a better way of life for themselves and their families. These people sometimes come to this country with nothing because living in America with nothing is still better than living under an oppressive dictatorship with all of your worldly possessions.
So on this day of independence, I will remember those who fought for me. I will honor those who are fighting for me. I will ask God to protect our brave men and women as they take on their mission without hesitation or complaint. And I will pray for their safe return home.
God bless to all of you. Have a happy and safe Fourth of July.
Lisa

Cook an egg on the hood of a car hot. Air conditioned outhouses--HOT. We put our men and women in a kevlar helmet—heavy and painful. We tie the helmet to their chins, put sixty pounds of flak vests on them--some of which don't even work. We give them ammo and uniforms and say, “go get ‘em.” And then we do not even provide a good boot to support all this weight around.
That is what I think about on the 4th of July. What we did in Nam was a long time ago, my brothers have been dead for a long time. These chances to celebrate and say thanks go to the present day heroes--the service men and women living and dieing in heat that would burn the devil’s tail and driving on roads so dangerous that most fly over them.
God Bless them all.
Happy Fourth of July
Come home soon.
Colonel David Hunt

I told someone the other say that I am quietly patriotic. I am not a flag waiver or "my country right or wrong" kind of girl. It's true but Lisa said I had to post something for the Fourth.
I think we live in the best country in the world. I think we are not perfect but that we strive for perfection and that we learn from our mistakes. I think we have the best military in the world in action and in spirit. These people willingly fight for us. They protect us. They keep us safe. They allow us to live our lives the way we choose. They keep us free.
So waive a flag, sing the star spangled banner, or protest something. Whatever you do today, do it knowing that you can do it because other people pay for that freedom with their lives. Take a minute and be grateful.
Chris

"I told someone the other say that I am quietly patriotic. I am not a flag waiver or "my country right or wrong" kind of girl. It's true but Lisa said I had to post something for the Fourth."
Why does this not shock me? It takes a conservative to make a liberal say something, anything nice about this country on the 4th of July.
Tell me Chris, which holiday is tougher for you, the 4th of July or Christmas?

Now wait a minute Cappy,
I'm gonna jump in here and defend my friend. Not everyone is an "out there" kind of person. Chris is just as patriotic as I am. She just shows it in a different way.
Now, I know this is going to be hard to believe, but I wasn't always as out spoken as I am now. I know that's a shocker but try not to go into cardiac arrest.
So as someone who has lived in a glass house, I am certainly not going to throw stones.
Happy 4th Cap!

Oops...sorry.

I love my country and I don't feel the need to prove it to you.
Have a Happy Fourth of July

Happy 4th of July to Chris, Lisa, Col Hunt and all your readers. Even though you are celebrating kicking our butt :0)

Happy 4th you all.
Cappy? GFY.
I fought for Chris' right to say and feel any damned way she wants. Personally, I'll bet she has done more for your freedom than YOU have.
AND ... have a nice 4th too.

Hey Steel--
Thanks for sticking up for me but it isn't necessary. I could get into a dick measuring contest with Cappy here--and probably win--but you can't out crazy crazy people. He simply isn't worth the time to argue with. But I appreciate your comment--
Happy Fourth of July and in case no one did it then and no one has said it recently, thank you for your service.

I've never been in a dick measuring contest. I don't think I'd win.

Lisa,
Against Cappy you probably could!

I am a little late for Happy July 4th, but Happy belated July 4th. I was on a military base this weekend celebrating with the greatest people on earth; or military. Thanks for our freedoms, our democracy, our safety, and our right to celebrate. Bless our troops and come home soon!

Hey Lisa:
Here is some good news for our Independence Day week. It is a column in the Telegraph (UK) entitled "US delight as Iraqi rebels turn their guns on al-Qa'eda." It sounds like even the Iraqi insurgents can't stomach Zarqawi's crazies any longer. This is the kind of news we need to hear. This is what will win the War and the Peace and allow our troops to come home sooner rather than later.
Of course, this is in a publication from the UK, but at least it is out there. It also shows the in-roads Zarqawi and his henchmen have made in Iraq.

Thanx Judy... I have actually heard this from soldiers who have witnessed the Iraqis attacking Zarqawi's troups.
I agree, this is news we really need to hear.
Hope you had a happy 4th.
