Muslim Blogosphere Speaks Out...
Thanx to Black Five, I came across this site where Muslims are speaking out against terrorism. I think this is wonderful. I think more Americans need to know about this. We need to understand that the terrorists do not represent the Muslim world as a whole. I think sometimes because we don't hear from the Muslim leaders, we assume that all Muslims feel the same.
All of that being said, where are the Muslim leaders around the world? Why aren't we hearing from them...condemning these terrorist attacks. Why aren't the leaders asking the Muslim world to keep a vigilant watch and report to the authorities information they may have on terrorist activities. We aren't hearing the call to arms from the leaders. We aren't seeing these men on the 6:00 news speaking out.
The terrorists recruit young men everyday because the Muslim leaders aren't voicing their condemnation of these terror groups. Give these young men a reason to fight terrorists, not become one.

UPDATE: Michelle has information on a possible new terrorist attack in Trinidad. I wonder if we'll hear from any Muslim leaders?

The Muslim comunity in the UK has been quick to condem the terrorist bombings. here are a few examples:
1) The Muslim Association of Britain reiterates its total condemnation and unconditional denunciation of yesterday's terrible attacks on London and expresses its disgust with the contempt in which the perpetrators appear to hold human life.
Islam holds the sanctity of human life in the highest possible regard and shedding the blood of an innocent person is seen as a crime most heinous and repulsive.
The Muslim Association of Britain calls on Muslims everywhere to be clear and strong in declaring the fundamentals of Islam which emphasise the principles of peace, justice and humanity. It calls also on those living in London and elsewhere to provide all assistance and support requested by the emergency services and to contribute fully towards the smooth and successful progress of their work.
2) Sermon by Shaykh Abdul-Qayyum, Imam of East London Mosque
Friday 8th July: "Islam is for saving human life. Allah says in the Qur’an: He who killed any person, unless it be a person guilty of murder or spreading chaos in the land, should be looked upon as though he had slain all mankind. And he who saved one life should be regarded as though he had saved the lives of all mankind...Islam came to bring security in people’s lives. It is a basic human right for every human being to live in security....The evil people who planned and carried out these indiscriminate acts in London are criminals. No religion can accept what they have done. Their actions are crime and terror, which all should condemn. They should be brought to justice and they should be punished without asking what is their race or religion".
3) Eminent scholar Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi strongly condemned the London bombings. He stressed that the Islamic faith “denounces in the strongest possible terms the shedding of the sanctified blood of innocent and protected people.”
Al-Qaradawi described these bombings as “evil acts characterised by barbarity and savagery, which are condemned by Islam in the strongest of terms, for Islam is extremely clear about the prohibition of taking human life, as the Quran, like other books of divine revelation, stresses that “if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole of humanity: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole of humanity”.
Al-Qaradawi emphasised that what this group has carried out has absolutely nothing to do with Islam, but is indeed clearly contradictory to Islam’s rules of peace and war, and that “Islam, even in official war where armies of countries are in confrontation, does not sanction the killing of women, children, old people, monks, farmers, traders and the like, or what is termed in modern times ‘civilians’”.
Al-Qaradawi presented his condolences to the families of the victims who have lost their loved ones, stressing that “Islam and its scholars, regardless of their school of thought, stand against these acts which cannot be sanctioned by any faith, morality or law, regardless of the religion or race of their perpetrators”.
He also sent a special message of condolence to the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone, saying “we send special condolences to our dear friend the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, a man of integrity who has for long sincerely defended the rights of Arabs and Muslims”.

Lisa, We won't hear about the Trinidad bomb from Muslim leaders because it's nothing to do with them. It's all to do with local Trinidadian politics.

Thank you, Scottie for that post. I don't know that a 'call to arms' would be approved by the 'good' Muslims, but certainly worldwide condemnation of the acts of these criminals would be a great starting point to give voice to the everyday Muslim who believes in the tenants of the religion Scottie notes above.

Scottie,
I'm glad to see the leaders in the UK stand up and speak. Unfortunately, we don't have that happening here in the U.S.
