Who is Biased Now?
I love it when bloggers claim that the MSM is biased and that they are the true freedom seekers who place truth above all. It makes me giggle.
Recently the Air force Academy has had some issues regarding accusations that they are not religiously tolerant or foster an atmosphere that is tolerant of only Christians.
There are articles all over the place on this subject--MSM and the web.
The Washington Post reports that the following accusations were made.
A chaplain instructs cadets to try to convert classmates by warning that they "will burn in the fires of hell" if they do not accept Christ. During basic training, freshman cadets who decline to attend after-dinner chapel are marched back to their dormitories in "heathen flights" organized by upperclassmen. A Jewish student is taunted as a Christ killer and told that the Holocaust was the just punishment for that offense. The academy's head football coach posts a banner in the locker room that proclaims, "I am a Christian first and last. . . . I am a member of Team Jesus Christ."
If you know anyone who attended one of the military academies then you know that some of these things sound like normal hazing--the building of cadets. Some of the other ones however, sound somewhat disturbing.
There has been an investigation and there is going to be a report, so we'll leave that stuff for another day. Right now, I want to look at the unbiased way the web is treating this issue.
Go here if you wish to hear only about the hethan march thing--which by the way is one of those things that sounds like normal hazing to me. This site completely skips over the rest of the accusations that were levied and posts a what-if-we-do-away-with-spirituality rant by a former graduate.
See Hugh Hewitt if you want to read an attack on the organization who brought forth the charges.
Or if you are really in a nasty mood, you can visit The Museum of Left Wing Lunacy where the issue isn't even discussed. Here they just throw insults at a Minister who worked at the Air Force Academy and said that the atmosphere was too evangelical.
So, who is biased now?
Oh, by the way, it isn't just some left wing wackos making these charges.
The superintendent of the Air Force Academy acknowledged to leaders of a national Jewish group on Friday that religious intolerance permeated the military school.
"As a commander, I know I have problems in my cadet wing," the superintendent, Lt. Gen. John Rosa Jr., said at a meeting of the executive committee of the group, the Anti-Defamation League. "I have issues in my staff, and I have issues in my faculty - and that's my whole organization."
