Thanks for pointing out this story. I had to wipe the tears from my eyes to write this.
Another similar story happened this past fall at a high school near here, only it was with a boy with Down's Syndrome and a football game. The boy was one of the team managers and worked his heart out for the team for four years. The coaches from both teams agreed ahead of the game that no matter who was winning, this boy would be sent in and allowed to make a touch down at the end of the game.
He was called in and he ran as fast as he could to the center of the field. The ball was passed off to him and he began to run the wrong way. Guys from the other team acted like they were trying to bring him down but subtly turned him to the right goal post and let him run. The other team guys acted like they were trying to catch him and the boy's team acted like they were blocking them.
He made a touch down and spiked the ball just like he had seen done many times. He had a smile a mile wide. There wasn't a dry eye in the stadium.
Things like this always renew my faith in mankind.
